Newborn Photos

Capture the memories of life’s greatest gift…

One of my most favorite type of photos to take are newborn photos. There’s nothing more wonderful or worth celebrating than the birth of a child. As a parent myself, I can tell you that those first few weeks go by lightning fast! Blink and they’ve already changed. So make sure to capture some images to remember the newborn stage forever, before it’s too late!

I would love to create some memorable images for you and your growing family.

Things to Consider:

  • Book Early

Most new parents don’t think about booking photos until after their child is born. By that point, it might be too late to get on a photographer’s schedule! Ideally, newborn photos should be taken in the first couple weeks after birth. Any later than that, and they may be too active for those cute little poses.

  • Location

    AT HOME

Your home is the best place for creating a peaceful and comfortable environment for Baby. You’ll need:

    • A room with lots of natural light, usually the room with the biggest window.

    • Plenty of open floor space for the photo props and equipment, at least the size of a queen mattress. Alternatively, the setup can be done on a bed as long as there is plenty of light in the bedroom!

    • Warm temperatures. If you want some cute photos of the that little baby bum, it’ll need to be warm enough for Baby to be comfortable while naked. It should be warm enough for Mom and Dad to be in shorts and t-shirts, or even shirtless for skin-to-skin photos.

    • A calm environment. Peaceful music, aromatherapy, an extra care-giver for younger siblings in another room, etc. Whatever helps you and your baby feel relaxed.

    AT THE HOSPITAL

Another option is to take photos right after Baby is born while you’re still in the hospital. These are really fun photos to take, because this is the smallest Baby will ever be! Or, you may even choose to document the birthing process for a truly special experience. These options are a bit more ‘documentary’ style and may not include as many props or posed shots as a home photoshoot.

  • Timing

You know your baby best. Keep in mind the time of day when they have their deepest sleep during naps. That’s our best window for posed shots. It’s also best to aim for just after a feeding to make sure they’re full, happy, and extra relaxed. Of course, there are no guarantees, and Baby is going to follow their own schedule, especially the younger they are!

  • Props

If you have any special clothing items, stuffed animals, toys, books, or anything you want included in your photos, let me know! I’m happy to compose some images around those items to make your photos as personal and special to you and your family as possible.
